Friends....

This post is all about my friends. I have often been told that if I can count the number of my close friends on one hand that I am doing pretty good. Well I don't have enough hands for the number of people that I have known for a long time and still count as some of my best friends. My core group of friends found me at a time of life change: moving, growing up, figuring life out. They were doing the same thing. We bonded while trying to figure life out together. One of my friends used to say that we were born to empathize with each other. Truly we experienced many of the same trials and heatbreaks, sometimes even with the same guy. I feel like I was born to be there for my friends, as I know they would certainly be there for me. They know who they are, and they know that they are an extension of my family. I miss them when i'm gone, but when we are reunited it is like no time has gone by. It's nice to know I always have a cheering section

Why?

Why is it that when something terrible happens, like the shooting yesterday, it has to happen again soon after? There was a shooting in Orlando today, (in fact the person responsible has not been caught) and two people lost their lives, 17 other people were shot. I don't understand what drives someone to that point! Thankfully I am fine and so is Matt, and everyone we know and care for.

Thinking...

Today there was a shooting at a military base in Texas. The gunman was a military psychologist. I can't imagine waking up and thinking "im going to go shoot a bunch of people today". A friend of mine has a sibling stationed there. I am praying for her tonight.

Dear CNN,

Dear CNN,

I hate your new layout.

XOXO,

Frustrated!

I hate math. I hate group projects more than I hate math and I ESPECIALLY hate math that says, hey? You know what? We're gonna have a group project, JUST TO MESS WITH YOU! But not just any group project...no no, that would be too easy, we're going to have one for an online class! And you can't possibly meet in person because you live in a different state! Good luck with that sucker! So you know, just a little bit frustrating.

Excited!

This is my second time writing this. Blogger decided to crap out on me right as I hit publish. So....

I am excited for Halloween! We had to pull down all of our Halloween decorations last week out of the attic and I found myself so excited for this holiday! My mom always made a big deal out of Halloween. She used her creative genius to create costumes, contraptions and decorations. My favorite was this thing she created for the front door so that whenever it was opened a witch or spider would come rushing at you. I spent a lot of time opening and closing the door and watching in delight. Since then, I found Matt, who like me, loves Halloween. Every year we wait for all the store's Halloween aisles to go up and then we search for bigger and better things for our decor.

Right now, our decorations include: several carved, uncarved and porcelain pumpkins, countless headstones, a door mat, a fog machine, "Vinnie the Vampire", a set of "haunted" books, a haunted village, and many more things. Not too gory, but a lot of fun!

I did recently make my first Halloween purchase. I bought some candles that appear to be white on the outside, but drip red when lit. I am very excited to use them!

I have no idea what my obsession with Halloween decorating is, but I love it. Luckily, I found a man who loves it with me.

The one thing I will miss this year is the crisp air that comes with Fall in Utah. But..I have something they don't...MICKEY'S NOT SO SCARY HALLOWEEN PARTY! I am so excited!

Oh SNAP!

There were two instances this week where there were some serious OH SNAP moments with celebrities...first was with the Taylor Swift/Kanye West MTV Music Awards debacle. Kelly Clarkson spoke her mind on her blog saying "what's wrong with you? Did you not get hugged enough as a child?" to West. She went on to say that she disliked him more than her ex-boyfriend, "which is strange, cause I don't even know you personally". Snaps to Kelly Clarkson for putting Kanye in his place. In case you live in a box, Kanye interupted Taylor Swift when she was accepting her moon man for the "Best Female Artist Music Video" to say that Beyonce deserved it more.

The second Oh SNAP! moment was surrounding a comment that Megan Fox said stating that working with Michael Bay was like "working with Hitler" in his approach. In return for this comment Megan Fox was backhanded with a letter from an anonymous trio that supposedly work with Bay on most of his films. "Megan Fox is a classless...woman who is dumb as a brick" They started off. The letter when on to be much less than flattering to Megan Fox ultimately hoping "that they kill her character off in the first 5 minutes of Transformers 3" OH SNAP! I thought this was probably something Megan Fox had coming seeing as her big mouth had yet to get into any real trouble.

A Vampire Observation...

Twilight: A book series penned by Stephanie Meyer designed to give woman irrational expectations of men.

True Blood: A book/TV series designed to give woman irrational expectations of men. With more sex.

I have read the Twilight books several times and have seen the first movie. I have always thought that Twilight was pretty original in some of its storylines. Since watching True Blood, I am starting to wonder if Stephanie Meyer didn't get some of her ideas from another vampire series....

True Blood is based on the Southern Vampire Mysteries, a book series that was released in 2001. Twilight was released in 2005. There are a few similarities that I have started to see, that I would like to point out.

Twilight stars Edward Cullen and Bella Swan. Edward is a vampire who can hear other people's thoughts, everyone's but Bella's. He was turned into a vampire in the early 1900's and is a gentleman. He does not believe in feeding on humans, and only feeds on animals.

True Blood stars Bill Compton and Sookie Stackhouse. Bill is a vampire and Sookie is a telepath who can hear other people's thoughts, everyone's but Bill's. He was turned into a vampire in the late 1800s and is a southern gentlemen. He does not believe in feeding on humans, and only drinks Tru Blood.

Twilight has Jacob, a were-wolf with a crush on Bella.

True Blood has Sam, a were-dog with a crush on Sookie

While True Blood is much much more gruesome and less wholesome than Twilight is, the similiarities stacking up so I will post it here and see what others think.

Amazed and saddened

I realized today, just today how quickly we can get news. I am sure everyone has heard about the deaths of Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson. I must say, with Michael Jackson's death I was amazed as to how QUICKLY everyone had updates. I mean as soon as it happened, there it was. Everyone I worked with quickly checked every news site they new of and there it was. I mean, it was up to the minute. It was just amazing. And even with the updates...I found myself frustrated that we didn't have answers. Its just funny that even with 50 websites with information, we still wanted to know the outcome...now! With that all said, I wll say that I truly believe there were two amazing icons lost today. Michael Jackson, he may have been "Wacko Jacko", but he is and always will be the King of Pop. He was absolutely perfection at what he did. I really truly hope he finds the peace he never found on earth

Adventures and Mis-adventures

This is a HOT day in Florida. So hot I am pretty sure if I cracked an egg on the ground it would sizzle into a perfectly rounded sunny-side up. Of course I like my eggs scrambled, so the thought of doing that is moot. Unless I had a spatula. Random....I had someone tell me that my sense of smell is amazing. Assumedly not everyone can pinpoint the smell in the Mexico pavillion to a particular moment in High School. That's how it has always worked for me I guess. I can smell something that sends my mind right back to that particular moment in time. The mind is an amazing thing sometimes. I have been reading a blog that I think is probably the most interesting thing I have read in a while. Like it was written for me. It is dooce.com and it is written by a woman who resides in Utah. She is akin to me in that she was a devout Mormon for several years of her life and then decided that organized religion is not for her. She has some very interesting points of view, and its nice to read about Utah through eyes that are not the news. Its like a little piece of home. She frequently posts pictures of Utah landscape and it makes me miss my mountains looming over me on a summer evening. I am so excited to go to Utah in July!! I love and miss Utah in the summer. Something so primal about the earth and the air in Utah during the summer. You just feel like you need to get out and do something...even if you aren't the outdoorsy type. In Florida, its more about staying away from the...*shudder*...humidity. Its already beginning. Like I said...eggs.

Update!

Reading my sister's blog has inspired me to update this thing more often. :o) Here is an update on Matt and my life....
Matt is still trying to find a job. I know everyone is wondering "what's taking so long?" ha ha, and trust me, I am too, but I understand that it isn't Matt's fault. He has applied to so many places and they just either aren't hiring, or don't want to hire him because they would have to pay him more. He did just apply to an apartment complex that I think would really like to have him except that he isn't HVAC certified. They want someone certified, but we just don't have the money to send Matt through that kind of training. He would be more than willing to be ceritified if they would hire him! :o)

My friends Jenny and Candyce came down recently and it was such a fun time, it soothed my sadness in missing my family and friends, but also made it worse when they left! I have the best friends in the world who would stick by me in every situation. I realized that while people always say if you can count more than one person as a good friend you are lucky. Well I have so many people that I love and would trust with anything. It makes me feel so happy to know that even though I may not see my friends every day, I could see them tomorrow and it would be like absolutely no time had passed.

I will include some pics from that trip later, I promise!

A week after the visit from Jenny and Candyce, Matt's parents came into town. We enjoyed their company though I didn't really get to see them, (I was working all week). They took us on an airboat ride, which was probably one of the coolest things I have done in Florida since we got here. We got to see some cool wildlife including a baby Bald Eagle and an adult one. A gator(!!!) which incidentally is the first gator I have seen in Florida since we got here. The ecological make-up of Florida is so different than what I am used to.

Matt's parents also decided to purchase one big thing for our home and left it up to us to decide. We decided on a guest bed, because I knew we would be having more guests! Matt's parents were here for a week and have already planned to come out again in June.

Matt and I are anticipating another group of visitors, my family! I am so excited because this will be the first time since I was 2 that my whole family is on vacation together. My mom, dad, sister, nephew, and brother-in-law will all be coming down together and I could not be more excited!! I can't wait to take my little nephew to DisneyWorld. He will probably be on sensory overload, but I can't wait to see an excited look on his face! It will just be a blast! (not to mention that I will have ten days off of work!)

Well more later!
